How to Prepare, File A Michigan Tax Amendment

Need to amend your Michigan tax return?

If you discover an error on your 2023 or previous year's Michigan return, you'll need to file Form MI-1040 along with Schedule AMD (changes explanation). While eFile.com can help you prepare these forms, you cannot submit them electronically for amendments. Simply mark the designated box indicating it's a state tax amendment. Remember, the IRS uses a different form (Form 1040X) for federal amendments. The IRS might notify you of an error, or you might find one yourself. If you or the IRS amend your federal return, it's reported to Michigan, and you may need to file a Michigan amendment within a year.
