Problem: The IRS—not eFile.com—rejected your Federal Tax Return because your spouse's Social Security Number (SSN) has been used on another previously e-Filed return with the IRS.
Solution: Sign into your eFile.com account, click Name and Address, and verify your spouse's SSN. If the number is correct, did you or somebody else already file a return with your spouse's SSN? Did they file as the primary taxpayer on another return?
If the number is not correct, correct it and continue with your re-eFile process. You can re-eFile your return at no additional charge. If you are certain that your spouse's SSN is correct and that you or your spouse did not eFile another return with the same SSN, you might have to mail in your return.
In some cases, the IRS rejects a tax return incorrectly. In that case, go to "My Account" in eFile.com and download, sign, print paper file your return via mail or call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040.
