Problem: The IRS—not eFile.com—rejected your Federal Tax Return because the Social Security Number (SSN) that was entered for the primary taxpayer has been locked by the Social Security Administration due to it belonging to a deceased individual.
Solution: Sign into your eFile.com account, click Name and Address, and enter the correct SSN. If the number is not correct, edit it and continue with your re-eFile process. You can re-eFile your return at no additional charge.
In some cases, the IRS incorrectly rejects a tax return. In that case, go to "My Account" in eFile.com and download, sign, print, and mail in your return. You should also consider calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040, as well as contacting the Social Security Administration to see why your SSN was locked and have this fixed. See printing and mailing instructions plus addresses based on your resident state.
