Problem: The IRS—not eFile.com—rejected your Federal Tax Return because a return with the same Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) has already been processed by the IRS.
Solution: Sign into your eFile.com account and do one of the following:
- Click on Name & Address to review your SSN/TIN to be sure it is correct. If it is not, make the correction so you can re-eFile. If it is correct, then your information has been used to file already. Did you file elsewhere or did someone file a return on your behalf?
- Click on Federal Taxes → Review on the left green section. Then on the right side, click on the link I'd like to see all federal forms in case you had intended to prepare an amended Form 1040X or e-File a superseded return. Make sure the proper data has been entered.
- If the return is neither an amended nor a superseded return and the TIN is correct, then you must contact the IRS because another electronic return has already been filed using the same TIN: 1-800-829-1040.
If you made any correction, you can continue to re-eFile your return at no additional charge until it gets accepted.
In some cases, the IRS rejects a tax return incorrectly. In that case, go to My Account in eFile.com and download, sign, print, and paper file your return via mail. See printing and mailing instructions plus addresses based on your resident state.
